There's a particular kind of summer afternoon that feels distinctly Canadian: the long weekend, the table that drifts outside, the maple-sweet smell of something caramelizing.
Canada Day is the excuse. The menu is the point — three things we're proud to put on a Canadian table.
Maple-glazed salmon, off the grill
Oh Canada Dry Glaze is maple-sweet, garlicky, made with real Canadian maple sugar. Brush it onto salmon with a little oil, skin-side down on a medium grill, lid closed, until it just flakes. It caramelizes into a sticky, glossy coating in minutes — works on chicken, ribs, and chops too.
Slow cooker pulled pork, for a crowd
Combine Pulled Pork Seasoning with ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, and water. Add the pork shoulder, turn to coat, cover. Six hours on low or three on high. Shred with two forks, stir back into the sauce, pile onto buns with coleslaw.
One batch feeds a crowd and leaves enough to freeze.
SPG, on everything else
Salt, pepper, garlic. Shake it on corn with butter. Toss it with potatoes or vegetables before the grill. Season the chicken before anything else goes on. The least flashy thing on this list — and the one you'll reach for most.
Plus dessert, of course
A summer meal isn't complete without a refreshing sweet ending. We're loving Sweet Watermelon Pizza - it's quick to make, uses in-season fresh fruit, and is always a conversation starter.
Putting the table together
- Morning: pulled pork in the slow cooker
- Afternoon: glaze the salmon, season the vegetables. Prep the Summer Berry Dip Mix and prep the Sweet Watermelon Pizza, it's best chilled
- Close to dinner: grill the salmon, shred the pork
- At the table: pulled pork, maple-glazed salmon, SPG on everything — a spread that looks like more work than it was
Proudly Canadian, gluten-free, made with ingredients you can name.
